On 16 June 2022 the National Assembly of Vietnam passed a law amending a number of provisions of the Intellectual Property Law (the ‘amended IP Law’), only three years after the last amendments of June 2019.
The amended IP Law will take effect on 1 January 2023, except for the provisions on sound marks, which took effect on 14 January 2022, and the provisions on test data protection for agrochemicals, which will be delayed until 14 January 2024.
Various changes have been introduced this time to fully comply with Vietnam’s commitments under the CPTPP and EVFTA, and at the same time to resolve many outstanding issues practically.
