Son Doan is the founder and managing partner of the firm, having 24 years of experiences in practising IP Laws in Vietnam. Before establishing IPMAX Law Firm, Son was a Senior Associate and Deputy Country Manager at a leading UK International Intellectual Property firm for 12 years and at the same time, managed Doan Hong Son Law Office, a local patent and trademark agency.
Son has extensive experiences in handling various contentious and noncontentious matters, from securing protection and licensing to enforcement of intellectual property rights in Vietnam, including patents, trademarks, industrial designs and copyrights. He has also assisted multinational corporations in devising enforcement strategies and organizing nationwide enforcement programs, including the first nationwide enforcement programme against infringements of design patents.
He has been a frequent speaker on IP topics and his is a frequent contributor (for Vietnam) for WTR Daily. Since 2013, Son Doan also serves as expert to the EU’s Asean-IPR SME Helpdesk, who helps provide assessment on Vietnamese Intellectual Property legal framework and practice and also advises particular cases related to identifying and securing protections for Intellectual Property matters in Vietnam for EU Small and Medium Enterprises conducting business in Vietnam.
Son is often invited to serve as an expert on MOST and IP Vietnam ad hoc panels for resolving complex trademark disputes. He also helped review the teaching materials for training enforcement authorities produced by the IP Vietnam. Son is also active at INTA’s committees, having served as a member of the taskforce overseeing the implementation of the MOST-INTA Well-Known Marks Project.
